The Tennessee Legislature is moving toward the point where it wraps up its activities for the 2021 part of the two year session. As that day approaches, opportunities are ending to enact laws in 2021 which would restore your rights, which would remove infringements on your rights and which would require the state’s administrative branch to zealously defend Tennessee and Tennesseans against the orchestrated attack on our rights and state sovereignty that is swiftly coming from the Biden-Harris administration.
As these concluding days and weeks come to us, you will increasingly hear from Legislators what a great job they have done for you in 2021, particularly since 2022 is an election year for most of them. You will hear that they have accomplished all that could be accomplished. You will hear that they make some steps forward, albeit perhaps incremental steps or steps that just moved the ball down the field, in the battle with some unnamed forces to fully retore you rights. While it will not sound in these terms, you will be told that compromises were made on your rights to achieve some results because full results were otherwise unattainable.
As you hear those words, read to each of those who offer them the following from Article 10, Section 2 of the Tennessee Constitution:
Each member of the Senate and House of Representatives, shall before they proceed to business take an oath or affirmation to support the Constitution of this State, and of the United States and also the following oath: I ………. do solemnly swear (or affirm) that as a member of this General Assembly, I will, in all appointments, vote without favor, affection, partiality, or prejudice; and that I will not propose or assent to any bill, vote or resolution, which shall appear to me injurious to the people, or consent to any act or thing, whatever, that shall have a tendency to lessen or abridge their rights and privileges, as declared by the Constitution of this State.
The Bill Status and Calendar Reports list the bills that had activity last week as well as the ones on notice for hearings this week. Please review these and make the calls that need to be made.
