TFA, TFF, GOA and VCDL file joint comments to oppose ATF’s proposed “engaged in business” rule

On September 8, 2023, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (“ATF”) published a “Notice of Proposed Rulemaking” in the Federal Register, entitled “Definition of Engaged in the Business as a Dealer in Firearms,” 2022R-17, 88 FR 61993 (“NPRM”). ATF sought public comment on its proposal by December 7, 2023. TFA coordinated with Gun Owners of America, Inc., Gun Owners Foundation, Tennessee Firearms Foundation, Inc., (the newly formed TFA related charity) and the Virginia Citizens Defense League to prepare and submit the comments in opposition to this proposed rule (see below).

The enormous work that was undertaken in a very short comment period to pull these comments together and present them was largely work performed by Gun Owners of America and Gun Owners Foundation. TFA participated in the process and has helped to fund the substantial legal expenses that were incurred in researching, writing and coordinating efforts that resulted in this 84 page comment.

It is critical that we as Tennesseans stand guard like modern sentries to defend our rights, particularly when our own state government is taking no or ineffective effort to do so. If you appreciate this work and effort, please consider helping to cover the cost of projects like this.

Members can donate to this project and similar projects by making supplemental member donations.

Non-members can support the effort by joining TFA (and then considering a supplemental member donation).
Anyone can support the effort by making tax-deductible donations to the Tennessee Firearms Foundation!
