Tennessee’s August 2026 primary will select the Republican nominee for governor in 2026. As a practical matter, that primary IS the election and the November general election will likely be nothing more than a formality.
Tennessee Firearms Association sent its written 27 question survey to all Tennessee candidates for Governor and the Legislature. Of the Republican candidates for governor, only John Rose and Monty Fritts responded. See results. TFA’s survey is not “subjective” like some others. TFA’s policy is to ask the questions, report the responses and provide the voters with the actual questions so that the Yes/No responses of the candidates can be assessed by each interested party.
As previously reported, Marsha Blackburn did not respond to the TFA’s written survey. It is not clear why she refused to provide answers to specific questions on the survey because she also did not provide any letter explaining her decision to be unresponsive. In contrast, for example, while Bill Lee did not respond to TFA’s survey questions when he ran for governor, he did send a letter to TFA stating what he would commit to do if elected. Of course, he did none of it but that likely does not surprise anyone.
In the last two weeks, TFA contacted each candidate and/or their campaigns to arrange for a video interview of where the candidates stood on 2nd Amendment issues in Tennessee. TFA’s policy for these interviews is that it sends each candidate the exact same set of questions in advance so that they can prepare. During the interview, TFA only asks the questions that were sent to the candidate. There are no followup questions or requests for clarification. The candidate’s answers stand on their own.
Both John Rose and Monty Fritts accepted the invitation and attended the interviews (although the one with John Rose was a little hard to get done because of an unpredictable schedule of duties in Congress on July 15 – but it was done nonetheless). Marsha Blackburn did not respond.
The video interviews of Monty Fritts and John Rose are now available on TFA’s YouTube channel.
Intro video for all three attempted interviews.
Candidate interviews presented in the order in which they were scheduled and NOT as a preference by TFA as to support or endorsement of any candidate.
There is no interview of Marsha Blackburn since she refused to participate in answering these same questions for the benefit of the voters.
Tennessee Firearms Association is a 501c4 advocacy group. It does not support, oppose or endorse a candidate. It has conducted the surveys and has conducted these interviews solely to provide an equal opportunity for all candidates to respond to questions relevant to the Second Amendment which responses are used solely to benefit the public and interested voters.
